Baked Meatball Casserole

Ingredients

  • 500 grams of minced veal
  • 1 egg
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • 2 spoonfuls of breadcrumbs
  • 2 teaspoons of chopped parsley
  • 1/2 kg. of ripe tomatoes
  • 1 medium sized onion
  • 1 green pepper
  • 300 grams of grated cheese
  • Olive oil
  • Salt
  • Ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar
  • Flour
  • Aromatic herbs (thyme, oregano and rosemary)

Preparation

  1. In a bowl we put the minced meat, we add 2 of the chopped garlic cloves, the parsley, the breadcrumbs and the egg. We will mix them with our hands until we get a homogeneous dough, seasoning it with salt and pepper.
  2. We will make the meatballs with our hands, we will put them in flour and we will fry them in a frying pan in hot oil. We will reserve them.
  3. To make the sauce, take the tomatoes, peel them and cut them into small pieces.
  4. Chop the onion into small pieces, the bell pepper without the seeds and the remaining garlic clove.
  5. In a pan with oil, we will make a a fried sauce with all these ingredients. when they become more tender, we will add the tomato, leaving it to cook over a low heat for 10 minutes, seasoning it for better taste.
  6. Add a pinch of sugar to reduce the tartness of the tomato and some aromatic herbs for better taste, such as thyme, oregano and rosemary.
  7. We will blend it in the mixer, until we get the sauce.
  8. We will add the meatballs to the casserole and we will leave them bake for 5 more minutes.
  9. Place the whole contents of the casserole in an oven dish and cover with the grated cheese. We will put it in the oven preheated to 200ºC for about 10 minutes, until the cheese is melted.
  10. Take them it of the oven and serve them immediately.
