Caramel Apple Bread

This caramel apple bread is filled with fresh apples, cinnamon, and nutmeg, topped with a caramel glaze, and is incredibly delicious and easy to make!

Apple Caramel Bread is the perfect recipe for a quick sweet bread to make this time of year, made with your favorite type of apple. We like the Pink Lady apples in this recipe. This recipe is easy to make but takes a little time to make because you have to let the bread cool down and then after you pour the icing on it, you have to let it set. Trust us, it’s worth the time!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup mashed potatoes or applesauce 
  • 1/2 cup of sugar 
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup canola or vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon of nutmeg
  • 1 cup apple, peeled and finely diced (1 apple)

Caramel glaze

  • 1/2 cup of butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of milk
  • A pinch of salt

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees f and butter a loaf pan.
  2. In a bowl, combine apple sauce, sugar, brown sugar, eggs, oil, and vanilla extract.
  3. Add flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Do not over mix. 
  4. Gently add the apples and transfer the dough to the bread pan.
  5. Bake for 60 minutes.
  6. In a saucepan, melt the butter and add the brown sugar and milk, whisking constantly. Bring to a boil, boil for 2 minutes while continuing to whisk. Remove from heat and let cool for about 30 minutes to 1 hour, stirring every 10 minutes or so. 
  7. Pour caramel on top of apple bread. Let stand 2-3 hours, until the caramel layer is set.
