Date Cake with Caramel Sauce

Do you like date squares and would you like to find another dessert that tastes just as good? We’ve found the perfect dessert for you. This date cake is tasty, but with the caramel sauce, it’s stunning. No one will be able to resist it. The caramel sauce adds an extra sweet touch that is a perfect complement to the cake. 

This cake is just excellent… too good!


For the cake :

  • 1 ¾ cup pitted dates, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 cup boiling water
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 3/4 cup of sugar
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 ⅛ cup flour

For the Caramel sauce :

  • 3/4 cup of brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 2/3 cup evaporated milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract


  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees f and butter an 8-inch square baking dish.
  2. In a bowl, mix the dates with the baking soda. 
  3. Cover the dates with boiling water.
  4. In a bowl, cream 1/3 cup of butter with the sugar.
  5. Add the eggs and whisk again.
  6. Stir in the dates with the water and flour with a spatula.
  7. Pour the dough into the prepared dish.
  8. Bake in the oven for 40 minutes. 

For Caramel sauce:

  1. In a saucepan, mix the brown sugar, 1/3 cup of butter, and the evaporated milk.
  2. Bring to a boil and simmer for 5 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and add vanilla.
  4. Pour over the still-warm cake.
