Texas Chocolate Sheet Cake

Texas sheet cake is one of the best recipes loved by people of all ages. Made in a jelly roll pan, it is hard to say no to with all the warm chocolate on it. You will find recipes the easiest to make for birthday parties, holidays, and potlucks. The chocolate frosting is very sweet and this sheet cake is supposed to be soft. If you want to make something quick and easy dessert at home, it should be the first thing.

There are many variations of this recipe, but I prefer the one that I will be sharing today. This sheet cake is amazing and everyone will approve it. If you have kids in the family, they will love it. 

Why is it named Texas sheet cake?

It is still not known why do we call it but some people say that it is the size of Texas. And the cake is made in a sheet cake pan where it gets the other name. 

Texas chocolate sheet cake recipe:

This soft and yummy sheet cake will be made in an 18×13 inch pan. We will be using it because it ensures a thinner cake with a layer of chocolate frosting. It is the best and the most traditional way of making this recipe, and you will love it. 

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of white sugar
  • 2 cups of flour
  • 1 cup of salted butter
  • A cup of water
  • 2 and a half tbsp of cocoa powder
  • A teaspoon of salt
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • half cup of Buttermilk

For the frosting:

  • 2 cups of powdered sugar 
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract 
  • 3 tbsps of cocoa powder
  • 7 tbsp of Milk
  • Half cup of Unsalted butter

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease the recommended size of the pan mentioned above. 
  2. Take a saucepan in which add the butter, cocoa powder, and water. Stir it nicely until the butter melts. After that, remove it from the flame and let it cool. (source: ineskohl.info)
  3. Now take a bowl in which add the flour, salt, sugar and mix them. Add the Buttermilk, eggs, vanilla essence, and baking soda in another bowl. Mix all of these ingredients well. 
  4. Add cocoa and melted butter mixture to the flour. After that, the buttermilk mixture will be gradually added while you are mixing it constantly. Take your time and beat it thoroughly.
  5. Add all of your mixtures to the greased pan and make it for 20 minutes. You can check whether it is done or not through a toothpick put in the center. If it comes out clean, your sheet cake is done. 
  6. Cool your cake after that at room temperature while you prepare the frosting. 
  7. In a saucepan add the frosting ingredients and mix it well. The frosting should be prepared on a medium flame. Add it hot on the sheet cake.

You can serve it hot and fresh too, but it is better to cool in the refrigerator. It will become the hit of your house, and the kids are going to love this dessert.
