Ingredients
  

For the Filling:

  • 4 lbs firm apples about 11–12 medium, peeled & sliced
  • 2 Tbsp lemon juice
  • ¾ cup sugar use 1 cup for tart apples
  • 3 Tbsp all-purpose flour
  • tsp ground cinnamon

For the Crumb Topping:

  • cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • ½ cup packed light brown sugar
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 cup 2 sticks butter, softened
  • Extra butter for greasing

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and butter a 9×13-inch dish.
  • Toss sliced apples with lemon juice.
  • Mix sugar, flour, and cinnamon; sprinkle over apples and toss to coat. Spread apples in dish.
  • In another bowl, mix flour, oats, sugars, cinnamon, and salt. Add butter and work into coarse crumbs.
  • Sprinkle topping evenly over apples.
  • Bake uncovered 45–50 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  • Cool 10–15 minutes before serving. Serve warm with ice cream if desired.
