Old-Fashioned Apple Crisp Recipe

For the Filling:
- 4 lbs firm apples about 11–12 medium, peeled & sliced
- 2 Tbsp lemon juice
- ¾ cup sugar use 1 cup for tart apples
- 3 Tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1½ tsp ground cinnamon
For the Crumb Topping:
- 1¾ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup rolled oats
- ½ cup packed light brown sugar
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- ½ tsp cinnamon
- ¼ tsp salt
- 1 cup 2 sticks butter, softened
- Extra butter for greasing
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and butter a 9×13-inch dish.
Toss sliced apples with lemon juice.
Mix sugar, flour, and cinnamon; sprinkle over apples and toss to coat. Spread apples in dish.
In another bowl, mix flour, oats, sugars, cinnamon, and salt. Add butter and work into coarse crumbs.
Sprinkle topping evenly over apples.
Bake uncovered 45–50 minutes until golden and bubbly.
Cool 10–15 minutes before serving. Serve warm with ice cream if desired.
