Ingredients

  • 1 17.3-ounce package frozen puff pastry (2 sheets), thawed
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 4 ounces cream cheese softened
  • 1 large egg lightly beaten

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Mix the softened cream cheese and shredded cheddar in a medium bowl until combined.
  • Unfold the puff pastry sheets. Gently roll each into an approximately 10½-inch square and cut each sheet into nine equal squares.
  • Place nine pastry squares on the baking sheet. Divide the cheese filling evenly among the squares, leaving a half-inch border.
  • Brush the edges with beaten egg. Place the remaining pastry squares on top and seal the edges with a fork.
  • Cut two small slits in each pastry top. Brush lightly with the remaining egg.
  • Refrigerate the assembled pastries for ten minutes.
  • Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, until puffed and golden brown on both sides.
  • Let cool for five minutes before serving warm.

Notes

- Keep the puff pastry cool for the best rise.
- Don't overfill the squares, or the cheese may leak during baking.
- Seal the edges securely before brushing with egg wash.
- Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to three days.
- Reheat in the oven to restore the crispy texture.
